Stefan Vilsmeier

Stefan Vilsmeier is the founder, president and CEO of Brainlab. At the age of 15, he got his first computer: A Commodore 64. At 16, he wrote a book on 3D software, which sold 50,000 copies in its first year and secured him an invitation to join a specific computer project at the University of Vienna. During that project, Mr. Vilsmeier was introduced to computer- and magnetic resonance tomography. He wanted to leverage the precision depicted in those images to enable better surgery. After just 20 days on campus as a computer science student at the Technical University of Munich, he dropped out and founded Brainlab to focus on digitizing surgery.

Since those early beginnings in 1989, Brainlab has evolved into an international leader in medical technology with over 1400 employees in 18 offices around the globe. The company has installed intelligent software and intuitive hardware for use in surgery, radiotherapy and digital operating room integration in over 5000 hospitals worldwide.
